Winter Olympics take center stage at annual school event
RAPID CITY – Local “Olympians” flocked to the 15th annual Rapid City Elementary (RCE) Winter Carnival on Saturday, Feb. 10 for an afternoon of fun and games. The theme “Winter Olympics” was chosen to go along with the timing of the games in South Korea.
“It really was a success and all the kids had an amazing time. We had a little over 200 people attend,” said RCE Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) treasurer Michelle Freeland.
The event was open to the entire community and had many students from nearby schools in attendance.
Volunteers oversaw more than a dozen activities for the enthusiastic “Olympians,” all with winter sport twists. There were indoor skiing courses, snowball tosses, curling competitions, hockey scrimmages, sledding races, biathlon challenges, and an obstacle course made out of the plowed snow pile in the school’s parking lot.
