Wrong stop: Car crashes into school bus; one injured
GARFIELD TWP. – Kalkaska County Sheriff’s Department officials are reportedly continuing their investigation into a two-vehicle accident on Monday, Oct. 28, that involved a Forest Area Community Schools bus and resulted in one person being injured.
According to KCSD reports, the accident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. Monday near the intersection of West Sharon and Puffer roads in Garfield Township.
A statement issued by the sheriff’s department reported the FACS bus was traveling on Sharon Road, when it made a left-hand turn onto the southbound lane of Puffer Road when it was struck by a Chevrolet Impala headed northbound on Puffer Road.
“The driver of the school bus and seven children on board were assessed by parents and EMS and released from the scene with no apparent serious injuries,” stated Sheriff Patrick Whiteford. “The driver of the Impala was transported to Munson Medical Center (in Traverse City) with non-life threatening injuries.”
The cause of the accident is still under investigation by Kalkaska Sheriff's Office Accident Investigators.
The KCSD was assisted at the accident scene by Garfield Township Fire Department Station No. 3, Fife Lake-Springfield Township Fire Department Battalion No. 6, Fife Lake EMS, Kalkaska EMS and the Michigan State Police.
