All-Area Boys Track team

REGION — Kalkaska’s Kyle McDowell is one of those athletes that you could enter into just about any event and he would find a way to excel. McDowell showed off some of that versatility this season as he ran at a high level in longer distances, mid-distances and in sprints. He earned all-state honors in the 800 as well as with the Blazers’ 4x400-meter relay team, where he was the anchor leg. That distance, the 400 meters, was where McDowell individually set a school record at this year’s Lake Michigan Conference Championships. All those accolades make McDowell a deserved selection as the Review Boys Track Athlete of the Year. Only a junior, McDowell is poised for another standout season on the track in 2018.
