ANTRIM COUNTY — Voters opted for the known over the unknown in Antrim County during the Tuesday, Aug. 4 statewide primary election, returning longtime Sheriff Dan Bean to his office for another term as well as most county and township officials, re-electing a number of other officials, and approving all millage renewals.

Bean, a resident of Mancelona, garnered 4,105 votes to 2,152 over challenger Triston Cole's in the hotly contested race for Sheriff, despite an energetic campaign by Cole, a resident of Chestonia Township who is term-limited in his current position as House Representative for the 105th District.

Seeking Cole's seat in the November general election will be Wilderness Valley resident Ken Borton, a longtime Otsego County Commissioner who won the Republican nomination over Republican Party darling Tony Cutler of Charlevoix County and Central Lake resident Jimmy Schmidt with 55 percent of the almost 20,000 votes cast in the District's area of Otsego, Antrim, Charlevoix, Montmorency and Oscoda counties.
