BC Pizza of Kalkaska withstands crash
KALKASKA — No injuries were reported after a pick up truck left the roadway and drove through the front wall of BC Pizza of Kalkaska on Wednesday, January 12 at approximately 3:30 pm.
No customers were in the restaurant or parking lot at the time, but four employees were hard at work inside, including owner Kati Hammontree.
“Three of us were in the back room when we heard what sounded like a gas station exploding and an earthquake at once,” said Hammontree.
After locating the fourth employee and making sure that everyone was OK, staff acted quickly to shut off water, gas and electric service to the building to prevent any further damage.
“We even had to alert the phone company because we receive orders online,” said Hammontree, quickly adding that they had one order for wings to be picked up at 4:05 p.m. “We didn’t forget your wings, Gary! We are sure he understands.”
