Bear Lake FD seeks to restock roster with new volunteers

BEAR LAKE TWP. — Like many other volunteer fire departments, Bear Lake Township Fire Department Station No. 8 is facing a personnel shortage.
According to a recent report by Fire Rescue Magazine, a U.S. Fire Department Profile Report stated that volunteer firefighter numbers for 2016 and 2017 were at the lowest recorded levels since the National Fire Protection Association began conducting a survey on the issue in 1983.
And, earlier this summer, Station No. 8 Fire Chief Mark Laskowski reported that the local fire department was down to only a half dozen firefighters who were responsible for handling the estimated 95 to 110 calls the department receives annually.
