Bellaire back in regionals after three-year drought
BELLAIRE — Under most circumstances, Bellaire senior Lexi Niepoth would not want to be seated on the bench for the entirety of the fourth quarter in a district championship game.
But Niepoth and the rest of the starters on the Bellaire girls basketball team were enjoying their view late in Friday’s Class D district championship game as it meant the Eagles were comfortably ahead.
“I’m not going to say I didn’t like it, because I didn’t have to worry too much on the bench,” said Niepoth. “It was definitely weird.”
Weird, but not unexpected as Bellaire (19-3) rolled to a 47-16 victory over Ellsworth in a district final where it took the heavily-favored Eagles a little while to get into rhythm before they left the Lancers behind.
