BOYNE FALLS — The drive for five began on Monday for the Bellaire volleyball team.

The Eagles, who are aiming to win their fifth consecutive district title, took the first step toward achieving that milestone on Monday with a decisive 3-0 win over host Boyne Falls in a Division 4 first-round game, 25-6, 25-9, 25-18.

Bellaire, which won a share of its first Ski Valley Conference crown earlier this year, left no doubt against the overmatched Loggers. The Eagles simply overpowered Boyne Falls at the net, with eight different players recording at least one kill, and sent over unreturned one unreturned serve after another on a night where they had 14 aces.

Libby Derrer had a team-best nine kills, while adding five digs and two aces. Delaney Goodwin stuffed the stat sheet with 17 assists, one kill, three digs and three aces. Noel Mann was the big server for Bellaire with four aces, while also chipping in with one kill and two digs. Contributions also came from Katie Decker, who had six kills and one dig; Katie Slabosz, who had one kill, eight digs and one ace; Kendall Fischer, who had five kills and two digs; Jacey Somers, who had four kills, one block and two digs; Kaitlyn Denoyer, who had four digs and three aces; Emersyn Koepke, who had seven assists and two digs; Bella Martinek, who had one kill, two assists and three digs; and Payton Fischer, who had two digs and one ace.
