Local amateur photographers are being encouraged to submit scenic fall photos taken with their phones to the Central Lake Fall Fest's Smartphone Photo Contest, which is taking place this Saturday, Oct. 19. The afternoon event will also feature a chili cook-off, cider and donuts, sidewalk sales offered by area merchants, along with other fun fall activities.

CENTRAL LAKE – Those who are out and about this weekend enjoying the fall colors may want to take time to enjoy a fall festival this Saturday sponsored by the Central Lake Chamber of Commerce.

The Central Fall Fest will take place downtown between noon and 4 p.m. on Oct. 19, and is scheduled to feature sidewalk sales conducted by downtown merchants, bounce houses for the kids, live music, a fall fruit and vegetable stand, pumpkin painting, and a 50/50 raffle, as well as a bonfire with accompanying information on fire prevention – and breast cancer awareness in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Week, according to April Cikity, one of the Chamber organizers for the event.

Also taking place during the festival will be a chili cook-off, which is expected to draw a bevy of enthusiasts and hungry attendees. Coordinated by Cikity, a professional photographer and owner of Fairytale Photos on State Street, judging will be done by members of the participating public and will take place at the Chamber's cabin on Main Street.

"People will be able to buy tickets for $1 to taste one chili, $5 to taste six chilies," Cikity said earlier this week. "After tasting the chilies, they'll be asked to vote on each one they tasted based on the heat and variety of the chili."

Categories for the contest will include "most traditional," "people's choice," and "most unique."

Restaurants as well as area residents are encouraged to participate in the contest. Judging will take place at 4 p.m. or when all the chili has been eaten. All entries must be at the Chamber cabin by 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19. For more information, contact Cikity at fairytalephotosphotography@gmail.com.

Also taking place during the festival will be a Smartphone Photography Contest. Those participating in that event are asked to submit original photos – without editing – of scenic or silhouetted photos of local subjects following a "fall" theme. Entries from professional photographers will not be considered. Please submit entries with the photographer's name and phone number, as well as the location of the photo, to Cikity at the email listed above.

"The top 10 photos will be featured on the Central Lake Chamber of Commerce's Facebook page," she said. "We're already getting some really good photos.

“The entire afternoon is going to a great day and a lot of fun. We look forward to seeing everyone this Saturday!" Cikity added.
