CENTRAL LAKE — Although there will be some changes and modifications due to social distancing requirements with the ongoing threat of the coronavirus, Central Lake's annual mid-February ice fishing tournament will be held as usual, organizers said last week.

Scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 13, during Michigan's Free Winter Fishing Weekend, the 8th annual ice fishing tournament will be held as usual on the waters of Antrim County's upper Chain of Lakes, with headquarters at Central Lake’s Thurston Park at the north end of Intermediate Lake.

Beginning at 7 a.m., anglers will be allowed to ice fish on the waters of any of the upper lakes, including Intermediate, Hanley, Benway, Wilson, Ellsworth, St. Clair, Six Mile, Scotts, or Beals Lake.

The event annually draws more than 200 anglers and continues to grow more popular every year.

Open to everyone, a registration fee of $10 per angler is required. Anglers may pre-register before the event itself at Lakeside Corner Store, NuStar Insurance, or the Central Lake Tavern in Central Lake, as well as at Bellaire Bait & Tackle in Bellaire, or from 6:30-7 a.m. at the fishing tournament tent in Thurston Park on the day of the tournament.
