Central Lake sees baseball season end in regionals
GAYLORD — One bad inning was all it took to thwart Central Lake’s chances to advance in the Division 4 baseball playoffs.
Gaylord St. Mary scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to break open a game that was going down to the wire as the Snowbirds ended the Trojans postseason run with a 9-0 victory in a regional semifinal on Wednesday, June 5.
Central Lake, which had been playing its best baseball of the year in the state tournament, was having a similarly solid showing in the first four innings of Wednesday’s game against the Ski Valley Conference champions and only trailed 1-0.
