Central Lake uses late surge to knock off Forest Area

CENTRAL LAKE — A young and inexperienced Central Lake girls basketball team is showing signs of becoming a more veteran group.

Take, for example, the last four minutes of Monday’s Ski Valley Conference clash with Forest Area. The Trojans battled back from a four-point deficit in the heat of the fourth quarter, embarking on a 9-0 run that led to a 50-47 win over the Warriors.

“I was just happy our kids hung in there,” said Central Lake coach Quinn Barry. “You get in a game like that, where you get down a little bit, you can fold in your tent. We’re getting better. That’s one of the things I’m seeing is we’re maturing enough that we don’t get our head down when things don’t go our way. We just kept battling for four quarters and got it done.”
