Central Lake voters to decide on marijuana businesses

CENTRAL LAKE — Registered voters living within the village limits of the village of Central Lake will be asked to decide on allowing retail marijuana processors and sales establishments in the village during the upcoming presidential primary election on Tuesday, March 10.

The question of allowing marijuana businesses, which are now present in other northern Michigan municipalities such as Kalkaska and Traverse City, arose last year when local business person Kelly Young asked the Central Lake Village Council for a variance on the village's ordinance against allowing marijuana businesses.

Young, who has a business selling non-intoxicating CBD oil, has said that she would like to open two buildings she owns on State Street in Central Lake as marijuana establishments — one for retail sales, the other as an education and awareness center.
