KALKASKA — After being canceled last season due to state COVID restrictions, Christmas in Kalkaska is back on for this year. Both the Christmas parade and the craft show will be held next month on Dec. 4.

Deb Ball-Odeh, who is co-chair of Christmas in Kalkaska alongside Katina Banko, said that some of the plans for the event are still uncertain and there have been some changes from previous years. This year, both the parade and craft show will be on Saturday, Dec. 4 instead of holding the parade on Friday night like it has been in previous years.

“We are awaiting the Village letting us know if we can have the bonfire in the museum parking lot this year, but no matter if we have a bonfire or not, we will have our Santa house up and Santa will be visiting with parade goers immediately following the parade,” said Ball-Odeh.

On Dec. 4, the craft show will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Kalkaska Middle School gym with the parade following later that evening. In addition to the craft booths the show will feature a raffle of crafter-donated items to benefit the Kalkaska Band Boosters, concessions available to benefit the Kalkaska County Agricultural Fair, a bake sale, and the Kalkaska Middle School National Honor Society will be hosting ‘Milk & Cookies with Santa’ this year, said Ball-Odeh.

The craft show is one of the most important features of the Christmas in Kalkaska festivities. “Christmas in Kalkaska is paid for by the proceeds from the craft show,” said Ball-Odeh. “We never solicit donations from our local businesses so it's important the community supports the craft show, which makes the crafters want to keep coming back.”
