Construction on Railroad Square set to begin as early as March 10
KALKASKA – While most of northern Michigan remains firm in the chilly grips of winter, officials with the Village of Kalkaska are hoping to progress on a $3.5-million redevelopment project will heat up — and soon.
After a second pre-construction hearing held last week, Kalkaska village manager Scott Yost said contractors for the project to redevelop the 300 Block of Cedar Street in downtown Kalkaska, what has become known as Railroad Square, plan to start moving construction equipment to the area almost immediately and to start work as early as March 10.
“The contractors are taking steps to secure the area,” Yost said. “They’re going to be moving snow and using ground-thawing equipment.”
