Council split in appointing White to fill vacancy
KALKASKA — Less than six months after his defeat in the November general election, Damien White is back as a member of the Kalkaska Village Council.
Council members voted, 4-2, at a special meeting Friday, May 14, to appoint White to fill the vacancy on the seven-member board with the immediate resignation of Trustee Tim Ellis just three days earlier on May 11.
Ellis said he resigned after being “ambushed” by comments at the council’s regular meeting May 10, alleging he was no longer residing within the village limits — an accusation Ellis has continued to deny.
Trustees Elizabeth Dunham and Robert Larsen voted against White’s appointment.
