The Antrim County Board of Commissioners agreed to purchase the former Huntington Bank building and property at 101 Depot St. in Bellaire during the board's regular monthly meeting last week.

BELLAIRE – After hearing a number of annual reports during its monthly meeting last Thursday, the Antrim County Board of Commissioners approved a motion to purchase a former bank building and land near the Antrim County government complex in Bellaire that would allow the county to someday consolidate its law enforcement facilities.

In a series of motions, the Commissioners agreed, with mostly unanimous decisions, to purchase the building and land located at 101 Depot St., east of the current Antrim County law enforcement complex, for $495,000, pending the results of both an environmental study and independent building inspection.

In recent months, Antrim County Sheriff Dan Bean had encouraged the county to consider the purchase for a possible law enforcement office consolidation.

“Right now, we’re all over the place,” Bean said of the office’s vehicle and evidence storage units, investigation offices, along with the building housing the Antrim County Jail and 911 dispatch.
