COVID-19 bears down with cases in schools, death of Central Lake man
REGION — The virus known as COVID-19 closed in on Antrim County last week with positive cases in several of the county's public school districts and the second COVID-related death in Antrim County of a well-known Central Lake man.
On Monday, Nov. 16, six new cases of the virus in the Elk Rapids School District were reported by the Health Department of Northwest Michigan, said new Elk Rapids Superintendent Julie Brown in a letter to parents, with three in Elk Rapids High School and three in Cherryland Middle School, bringing the district's total number of cases to 10, with the first reported on Oct. 29.
"While Elk Rapids Schools continues to work closely with health department officials, it is apparent that both the health department and the district are struggling to keep up with active cases and identifying close contacts," Brown said in the letter.
