DDA fees for RR Square stand, despite council vote

KALKASKA — The updated fee schedule to use the newly redeveloped Railroad Square in downtown Kalkaska is in place, despite a vote by the Kalkaska Village Council to reject it.

At its regular monthly meeting April 11, council members voted, 4-3, against the adoption of a proposed fee schedule for Railroad Square, which now includes two pavilions, a clock tower/informational kiosk, a dedicated open area and specified areas for food vendors after a $3.5-million development project that was mostly completed last year.

The vote came after Trustee Tim Ellis said he’d already received complaints from food truck vendors over potential fees of up to $600 per month to rent the space from the village.
