Elk Rapids posts football win over Kalkaska
ELK RAPIDS — In the 40th meeting between nearby rivals Elk Rapids and Kalkaska on Friday, it was Kalkaska that drew first blood.
But in the end the Elks came out on top with a 36-21 victory. The win gave the host Elks a third straight victory over the Blazers, who were looking to snap a 13-game losing streak.
The Elks took the opening kick and marched 33 yards in 13 plays, using six minutes of the clock before the Blazers’ defense forced a turnover on downs. Taking over on offense, Kalkaska put together a nine-play, 67-yard drive, ending with Ben Porter scoring from the 9. The extra point kick was good, putting the Blazers up 7-0, their first lead this season.
