ELK RAPIDS — The Division 3 district semifinal game between Boyne City and Elk Rapids was a grudge match, both teams suffering a loss to the other during the regular season, resulting in the sharing of the Lake Michigan Conference title.

In district play in Elk Rapids on Tuesday, the third meeting between the two squads was winner take all, and the end of the season for the defeated team. The Elks saw their four straight district titles streak snapped as the Ramblers advanced to the district finals with a 4-0 win. Boyne scored minutes into the game despite a near stop by a twisting Jorja Jenema, the Elks’ keeper. The teams would go into halftime with Boyne holding the 1-0 lead. The next goal came midway through the second half, giving the Ramblers a 2-0 lead. Minutes later Jenema collided with a Rambler and was forced to leave the game. Backup keeper Gwen Carroll was out with concussion protocol, giving freshman Kendall Standfest the keeper duty. Boyne went at Standfest, sending a shot just over her outstretched fingertips for goal number three, then added a final score with four minutes to play.
