End of an era
RAPID CITY — The way Michelle MacMaster figures, without Bruce Lirones, her husband Hugh would not have lived an extra 23 years.
Lirones, the MacMaster’s family physician since he opened his practice in Alden, was adamant that day at an appointment that Hugh meet with a cardiologist despite Hugh’s assertion that he was fine.
“My husband had passed a flight physical just two months before he went in to see Bruce,” recalled Michelle. “I don’t even remember what it was for. I think it was his back or something. Bruce insisted he go to the cardiologist. Of course, my husband was in denial. Bruce wouldn’t take no for an answer. He sent him to a cardiologist, where he failed a stress test and they discovered three blockages. He was a life saver for so many people. He’s a fabulous, fabulous doctor.”
