TRAVERSE CITY - One shot at time, one frame at a time.

Easier said than done, but that was Bellaire bowling’s mindset heading into Division 4 Regionals last Friday at Lucky Jack’s in Traverse City. With only four games scheduled to decide which two teams and 10 individuals advance to the state finals, nerves were tested, and hot starts were rewarded. In the end, the young Eagles turned in a solid 10th place team finish, and sophomore captain Brady Hoogerhyde finished fourth to punch his ticket to Super Bowl Lanes in Canton.

Hoogerhyde was steady on the lanes early, and his spare shooting had him in or near the top five after each of the first three games of 180, 190, and 182. Nerves crept in early in game four, but Hoogerhyde, unaware where he was at in the standings, finished the job, and shortly thereafter celebrated his first trip to the state finals.

Hoogerhyde finished with a total of 716 for a 179 average, and was the only underclassman to qualify out of the region. In fact, eight of the 10 bowlers were seniors.
