Ironmen top Charlevoix to halt losing streak

MANCELONA — The weight of a five-game losing streak was lifted from the shoulders of the Mancelona football team on Friday as the Ironmen held off Charlevoix for a 20-15 win.

“We needed it bad, especially coming off a tough loss at Frankfort,” said Mancelona coach Dan Derrer. “It was huge for us.”

Mancelona’s defense rose to the occasion and held the Rayders off the scoreboard until the fourth quarter, limiting Charlevoix to 124 total yards of offense on the night. The Ironmen offense was able to grind out three touchdowns — two in the fourth quarter — including a nearly seven-minute, 15-play drive late in the game that ultimately provided the deciding points.
