KALKASKA — The Kalkaska County Board of Commissioners (BOC) voted 5-2 to give up to $25,000 of County American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) money for each of the 12 townships to be used for qualifying projects at their Feb. 16 regular monthly meeting.

The $300,000 earmarked for the townships is part of the $3.5 million the County will receive in total as a second payment is expected this spring. Commissioners Comai and Crambell voted no on the motion.

The BOC’s ARPA committee held an additional meeting regarding the monetary offer at the Kalkaska County Commission on Aging Feb. 18 and invited township officials to offer feedback about the priority of potential projects to be completed using ARPA funds and review requests from the townships. At the time of publication, no information was available regarding the outcome of the meeting.

After a request by Kaliseum Director John Starr earlier this month, the BOC voted 7-0 in favor of a motion at their February meeting to lower the price for in-county resident passes at the Kaliseum to $5 from a previous $10.
