KPS board works to define criteria for next superintendent

KALKASKA – With an important deadline looming less than two weeks away, members of Kalkaska Public Schools Board of Education are continuing to work to further define what type of person they’re seeking to be the school district’s next superintendent.

In a letter to the board dated Dec. 18, current Supt. Karen Sherwood announced her resignation as KPS’ top administrator, a position she’s held since mid-2014, when she replaced interim Supt. Lee Sandy.

And, at the board’s regular monthly meeting March 12, the KPS board got some help from Jay Bennett of the Michigan Association of School Boards.

Bennett provided board members with results of a community survey, as well as information collected from working with KPS officials to establish clear selection criteria for potential candidates.
