KALKASKA – It’s coming. As temperatures cool and the leaves begin to change, there’s another sign of the coming fall season.

That’s the return of students to the classroom.

Students attending Kalkaska Public Schools are set to have their first day back in the classroom on Tuesday, Sept. 4, after the Labor Day holiday weekend.

But, in between school shopping sprees and before the holiday weekend, parents and students will get to celebrate the new school year from 4-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30 at the annual KPS Blazer Bash.

The festivities at Kalkaska Middle School will again offer a bevy of fun-filled activities, including bounce houses, a book fair, community information and plenty of hot dogs.

The activities will be held outside in the Kalkaska Middle School gym parking lot or inside the building if it’s raining.

While the event is designed to help KPS parents and students prepare for the upcoming school year, Blazer Bash is open to the public with hundreds attending the festivities each year.

Blazer Bash also coincides with the open houses held by the elementary schools and middle school, so families can bring their students to meet their teaching and administration staff for the upcoming school year.
