Lady Ironmen win Elk Rapids tournament

ELK RAPIDS — Mancelona defeated Bellaire 10-2 in the championship game of the Elk Rapids Invitational softball tournament on Saturday, in what could have been called the Antrim County Tournament, with Central Lake making up the final team of the foursome.

Bellaire came from behind to defeat host Elk Rapids 6-5 to reach the championship, while Mancelona earned their spot with a 7-3 win over Central Lake.

In the championship game, the Eagles struck first with Delaney Goodwin leading off the first inning with a triple, then scoring on a fielder’s choice. Mancelona came right back, scoring three runs in the second after Elizabeth Nichols was hit by a pitch, followed by back to back singles from Autumn Thompson and Cora Jenkins. The Ironmen increased their lead to 5-1 with a pair of runs in the third inning. Bellaire added a final run in the fourth with Kaitlyn Denoyer scoring after rapping a lead-off double. Mancelona padded its run tally with one in the fifth and four more in the sixth. Summer Robbins went the distance getting the win for Mancelona, fanning four and walking one. Nichols was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and scored three runs. Robbins batted 2 for 3 with a RBI and scored twice. Thompson and Jenkins each had an RBI.
