Lancers’ girls tie for 17th at Division 4 state meet

BROOKLYN — Led by the freshman duo of Christy Figueroa and Judith Veldboom the Ellsworth girls cross country team finished in a tie for 17th place out of 27 teams at Saturday’s Division 4 state finals.

Figueroa took 28th in 20:45 and Veldboom was 34th in 20:59 to lead the way for the Lancers, who scored 417 points to share 17th place with Bear Lake-Onekama. Those two teams were 11 points behind White Cloud for 16th. Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart was first with 39 points, followed by Ubly in second (138) and Lansing Christian in third (141).

The Lancers’ performance tops last year when Ellsworth’s girls were 19th.
