ELLSWORTH — The Ellsworth boys basketball team took care of business on Thursday in taking down Mackinaw City as the Lancers posted a 58-43 win over the Comets in Northern Lakes Conference action.

The win followed the Lancers’ victory against Harbor Light earlier in the week to keep them undefeated in conference play. Ellsworth is one-half game behind Alanson in the league.

Ethan Tornga was a big part of Ellsworth’s win with 24 points, 12 rebounds and four steals. Brayden Steenwyk chipped in with 12 points, five rebounds, four assists and six steals. The Lancers also had 10 points, nine rebounds, two assists and three steals from Jaeger Griswold and five points, seven rebounds and three assists from Jamal Cebulski.

The first half was the defining moment for the Lancers (5-1, 4-0 NLC) as they outscored the Comets 12-6 in the first quarter and held a 35-19 lead at the half. Mackinaw City closed the gap a little in the third quarter but still trailed 47-34 and Ellsworth made sure the Comets were unable to continue their comeback in the fourth quarter.
