Lancers win third straight league championship

ELLSWORTH — The Ellsworth boys basketball team notched one of its goals for the season on Wednesday, Feb. 26 when the Lancers won a third straight Northern Lakes Conference championship after a 68-38 win over Boyne Falls.

The Lancers were ahead 21-17 at the end of the first quarter, but took over in the second quarter, outscoring the Loggers 13-2 to build a 34-19 halftime lead. They upped it to 56-32 after the third quarter and cruised from there.

Ethan Tornga contributed 24 points, 18 rebounds, five assists and four steals. His points came on 10 of 14 shooting. Jaeger Griswold also had an efficient offensive game, scoring 23 points on 11 of 16 shots, while adding nine rebounds and five steals. Brayden Steenwyk reached double figures with 11 points and chipped in seven assists.
