Late slide leaves bitter taste on Kalkaska victory
KALKASKA — Having to sweat out a win was the last thing the Kalkaska boys basketball team thought it would be doing with the way things were going for the Blazers early in the second half of Tuesday’s game against East Jordan.
But a game the Blazers seemed to be in control of for most of the first three quarters got too close for Kalkaska’s comfort in the final minutes of what ended up being a 62-51 win over the Red Devils.
“We just quit playing basketball. We stopped doing the little things. We don’t want to box out, we don’t want to play defense,” said Kalkaska coach Cory Heier. “I asked them in a timeout, ‘Do you guys want to win?’”
