McDowell sets school record in 400 at LMC Championships

ELK RAPIDS — Kalkaska junior runner Kyle McDowell set the school record in the 400-meter dash when he ran a time of 50.94 on Wednesday, May 24 at the Lake Michigan Conference Championships.

McDowell’s time was good for second at the meet, behind Charlevoix’s Jared McLean, who ran a time of 50.11.

Led by McDowell, sprinter Tyler Chavalia and thrower Ben Farrier, the Blazers were able to place third in the conference, behind league champion Charlevoix (172 points) and Traverse City St. Francis (158). Kalkaska scored 119, Harbor Springs had 77, Boyne City 47, East Jordan 36, Elk Rapids 28 and Grayling 19.
