New attachment to allow for more efficient snow removal
KALKASKA — The regular monthly meeting of the Kalkaska Village Council on Monday started off a bit of old-fashioned show-and-tell, as officials got a first-hand look at what the village’s Department of Public Works will provide for more efficient snow removal in the future.
The primary focus of the presentation was an adapter fabricated by a local business, Patton Welding, that allows for a 14-foot plow to be attached to the village’s 15-ton front-end loader.
DPW employee Loyd Harrell said the primary job for the front-end loader and its new plow will be to clear the runway at the Kalkaska Village Airport on Island Lake Road.
More importantly, the combination will allow for more effective and efficient clearing of the runway.
