Once in a lifetime for Lancers

CENTRAL LAKE — The last baseball district championship for Ellsworth came before pretty much all of this year’s Lancers had even been born.

Ellsworth snapped a 19-year drought between district crowns on Saturday when it downed Central Lake 8-5 in the semifinals and cruised past Bellaire 16-4 in the championship game.

Two big innings were all the Lancers needed in the championship game against the Eagles, breaking a scoreless game with a nine-run third inning and adding a seven-run sixth inning to put the game away.

Jacob Jenuwine started and got the win for Ellsworth, while also leading a potent offensive attack with four hits and two RBIs. He also scored three times.
