Playoff bound: Elks punch postseason ticket with win over Rams
HARBOR SPRINGS — The Elk Rapids football team are returning to the playoffs for the second straight season with a 30-14 non-conference win at Harbor Springs on Friday night. The two teams last met in 2013, as members of the Lake Michigan Conference, with the Elks holding a 10-game winning streak over the Rams.
Marshall Fox got the Elks on the board first with a career-long 36 yard field goal with four minutes to play in the opening quarter. The Rams fumbled the ensuing kickoff and Tanner Blackmore came out of the pile with the ball for the Elks at the Harbor Springs 22 yard line. Six plays later, Marlin Starkey ran in from the 1, giving the Elks a 10-0 lead after one quarter.
Fox drilled a 23-yard field goal midway through the second quarter, increasing the lead to 13-0.
