Mancelona High School student Riley Fillmore is being considered for an elite U.S Presidential Scholarship, which is awarded to high school seniors that have demonstrated high academic success and involvement. Created by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964, the scholarship is one of the most prestigious awards in the country for a high school student. Selected from a pool of more than 4,000 specially-invited candidates, Fillmore hopes to become a veterinarian some day and works part time at the Mancelona Veterinary Hospital. The final round of competition for this year’s 161 scholarships will be held in May.
