Revised executive order draws resentment, criticism

REGION — As the citizens of Antrim County attempted to get a grasp on Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer's revised executive order of Thursday, Apr. 9, further restricting public movement statewide in an effort to slow a steadily rising number of COVID-19 victims in almost every county, more than a few expressed their growing frustration.

Said James Chamberlin, a Mancelona area fishing guide who found himself grounded when charter fishing was temporarily outlawed with Whitmer's first order several weeks ago, then banned from being on the water altogether with Thursday's ban on motorized boats, "I can understand trying to keep people from gathering in crowds, but a lot of these new rules don't make any sense."

Many others had been looking forward to their first golf outing of the year or trip to the gun range to sight in their shotguns for the upcoming spring turkey season, both activities which have also been temporarily banned, he pointed out.
