RR Square project taking shape as summer progresses
KALKASKA – Any person traveling to downtown Kalkaska probably can’t help but notice the more than block-long construction project in the village’s downtown at the 300 block of Cedar Street.
That’s because the $3.5-million development of what Village of Kalkaska officials have dubbed “Railroad Square” continues to take shape. And, with about 40 percent of the project completed, officials are proudly reporting the project is definitely rounding into form.
Construction crews recently erected what will be an event pavilion, with a commercial kitchen and capacity for 200 people, at its southern end, as well as the beginnings of a clock tower which will include electronic signage facing both north and southbound traffic along Cedar Street/US-131 to advertise local events.
