SEEDS programs plant a love for gardening in Kalkaska and Forest Area

REGION — Gardening was a popular activity this summer at summer camps hosted by SEEDS Ecology & Education Centers in Forest Area Middle School and Cherry Street Intermediate School.
At Cherry Street Intermediate School, students partnered with their neighbors at the Kalkaska County Commission on Aging to grow vegetables in the KCCOA’s raised bed gardens.
Jodi Magee, Director of the KCCOA stated: “It’s great to partner with SEEDS and the children, building into their lives and starting to build intergenerational relationships between the school children and the seniors of our community.”
Students at Forest Area Middle School expanded the size of their existing garden on the school grounds. They planted and tended a variety of plants, many from seeds, including tomatoes, squash, corn, carrots, and more.
