Somers is area’s volleyball player of the year

REGION — As the area’s top girls basketball player as a freshman, Bellaire’s Jacey Somers didn’t waste any time showcasing her talent.

Now, one year later, Somers has elevated herself as a dominating volleyball player, too. She made a big impact for the Eagles in her first year on the squad in 2019, but took her game to another level in 2020, improving on her strengths and becoming more versatile in her contributions to the team. For that, Somers is the 2020 All Area Volleyball Player of the Year.

Collectively, it wasn’t the kind of year Bellaire had become accustomed to, with the Eagles coming up short in district action for the first time in five years. However, it was still a solid season for the Eagles, who remained among the top teams in the Ski Valley Conference.
