ELK RAPIDS — Michigan high school soccer competition officially ended after the state final games were played in the first week of November.

The Elk Rapids boys soccer team came one game shy of playing in the state finals for the second straight year, falling short in a semifinal battle. Soccer on the pitch may have ended, but for the Elks the sport continues with the awarding of postseason honors. The Elks had seven players earn all-state honors this season, but one player was recognized for an award that is considered a step above all-state. Elk Rapids senior Jack Spencer became the first Elk Rapids player to be named to the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association (MIHSSCA) Dream Team for his play in the net as keeper. The Dream Team is made up of the top 11 players in the state, regardless of what division they play. Spencer was also named the top First Team Defensive Player in Division 3, as well as First team All-State.

He finished his career with several listings in the MHSAA record books, including second in career shutouts (49), fourth in consecutive shutouts in a season (11) and tied for fourth in shutouts in a season (17).
