State redistricting means changes for Kalkaska County
KALKASKA — New Michigan legislative and Congressional district maps are expected to take effect in March, changing the way Kalkaska is represented.
The maps were created and approved by the Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission (MICRC).
Redrawing of the state and federal districts is happening nationwide in accordance with the population data provided by the 2020 Census. The difficult task of redrawing the districts was the responsibility of the MICRC panel made up of 13 Michigan residents, four Democrats, four Republicans and five independents who were randomly selected by the state.
