Stolen campaign signs a common problem, Sheriff says

REGION — There's a national presidential election on the horizon, as well as elections for a variety of federal, state, county, township, and village offices and proposals, and the common problem of vandalized and stolen campaign yard signs is once again an issue that local law enforcement officials are trying to deal with. 

"It's a problem everywhere during every election," said Antrim County Sheriff Dan Bean on Monday. "It doesn't matter what political party the sign is from, or what the issue or proposal is, during every election my office gets reports of stolen and deliberately damaged campaign yard signs."

Even law enforcement officials running for election have problems with disappearing and damaged campaign signs, said Bean, who successfully ran for election to his fourth term in office in August. 

"I lost probably 20 of my signs last summer," he said.
