Stosio spurs improvement in Kalkaska, earns Player of the Year honors

REGION — It was a breakthrough season for the Kalkaska boys basketball program.

After winning a total of 15 games over the three previous seasons, the Blazers managed to match that number over the course of 22 contests in 2017-18. A 15-7 overall mark included a 9-5 record in the Lake Michigan Conference, which put Kalkaska in a tie for third.

There were a multitude of factors that helped spark the turnaround — a senior-laden roster that had a good amount of talent and new head coach Cory Heier’s up-tempo and pressing style that seemed to be the perfect fit for this year’s squad among them. But it would be a mistake to not cite the play of senior guard Joe Stosio as important, too.
