Trojans win first baseball district since 2009

ELLSWORTH — It’s been a season of peaks and valleys for the Central Lake baseball team, but the Trojans found themselves standing on the top of the mountain at the right time on Saturday at the Division 4 district tournament as they won the program’s first district crown since 2009 with a 4-2 victory over East Jordan.

Bret Dewey tossed a complete game to get the win, while Austin Bay and Matt Cary collected RBI hits that helped key the road to the championship.

“It felt really good because there were two well-played games,” said Central Lake coach Randy Powell. “It seemed to me that all the games were fun and exciting to watch. It looked like anybody could take it at any time.
