Village of Kalkaska applies to change legal status to city

KALKASKA — If Harley Wales, the president of the Village of Kalkaska, has his way, there soon won’t be a “Village of Kalkaska.”
Instead, it will be the “City of Kalkaska.”
At the regular meeting of the Kalkaska Village Council on Monday, Aug. 10, Wales announced the village had already submitted an application to change the Kalkaska’s legal status from village to city to the Michigan State Boundary Commission, where he said it is currently under review.
