Welcome back: Annual Blazer Bash set for Thursday
KALKASKA – The popular Blazer Bash is back again this year on Thursday, Aug. 29 from 4-6:30 p.m. in the Kalkaska Middle School parking lot for students of every grade at Kalkaska Public Schools.
The annual welcome back to school party will include some old favorites and new activities for all to enjoy. The 2019 Bash will feature a “Ford Drive 4 UR School” charity test drive, bounce houses, free hot dogs, chips and drinks, entertainment, a book fair, community booths with free school supplies, organization sign-up opportunities, and middle schoolers will have the opportunity to pick up class schedules and find their locker.
Longtime partner “Ford Drive 4 UR School,” offered by Bill Marsh Ford Kalkaska, will be available throughout the duration of Blazer Bash. Kalkaska Public Schools receives $20 for every driver that signs up and takes a short test drive of a new Ford product. Anyone 18 and older with a valid driver’s license is eligible to participate.
To support the district, KMS teacher and Blazer Bash organizer Collette Sabins stated, “Let’s get as many drivers there as possible!”
The Communities In Schools program will also host a “Stuff the Bus” donation site, collecting items to help ensure all students have a successful school year. All donated materials must be new, safe for young children and use only non-toxic materials.
Suggested donation items needed most include: backpacks, pencils/pens, spiral notebooks, highlighters, erasers, crayons/markers (in box), pocket folders, glue sticks, composition notebooks, three-ring binders, shampoo, deodorant, hand sanitizer, lip balm, lotion, combs/brushes, cleansing wipes, underwear (all sizes), socks (all sizes), snacks (granola bars and crackers) and tissues.
