Easter Egg Hunt at Meadow Brook

Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire is hosting an Easter Egg Hunt at 1 p.m. rain or shine on Saturday, March 31 at the inside entrance of Meguzee Hall. AMVETS Fish Fry

The Elk Rapids AMVETS Post 114 will hold a fish fry from 5:30-7 p.m. Friday, March 30 at the post home, 410 Bridge St. in Elk Rapids. Cod, whitefish or a combo are offered and all meals include fries and coleslaw (or baked potato upon request). The public is welcome and all proceeds go to support local veterans.

Al-Anon Meeting

Al-Anon meets at noon every Tuesday at the Bellaire Community United Methodist Church, 105 Bridge St. in the upstairs library (use the side door). The group’s Tuesday meetings are held during the months of May through December. This is a support group for family and friends whose lives are affected by the alcohol or substance abuse of loved ones.

Spring Break at the ER District Library

Enjoy three special events over Spring Break at the Elk Rapids District Library. On Saturday, March 24 at 1:30 p.m. meet U.S. Coast Guard pilot Matt Keiper. Keiper will talk about what it’s like to fly a Jayhawk and perform rescues on the Great Lakes. On Tuesday, March 27 at 2 p.m. participate in Creative Journaling for Teens with Joyce Brodsky. Journals, art supplies and healthy snacks will be provided. On Thursday, March 29 at 1 p.m. a Lego Maze Challenge will be held for kids who love to design, solve problems and have fun. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

Benefit Dinner and Silent Auction

A benefit dinner and silent auction for Craig Bennetts is planned from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, March 24 at the Pelican Room (East Torch Lake Drive) in Central Lake. A donation of $10/person or $30/family (of four) is requested for dinner. The event will also include a 50/50 drawing and live music by Willy Jam.
An account has been set up on Craig’s behalf and donations can be made at all branches of Alden State Bank, or mailed to PO Box 1179, Bellaire, MI 49615.

ALATEEN meetings in Kalkaska

ALATEEN is now holding meetings at 8 p.m. every Tuesday at the Kalkaska Senior Center, 303 Coral St. Alateen is a support group for those ages 12-18 whose lives have been affected by the alcohol or substance abuse of a loved one. There are three separate meetings held at the same time: AL-ANON, ALATEEN and AA. All are welcome to attend the meeting of their choice.

Miss Kalkaska Pageant

This year’s Miss Kalkaska Pageant, themed “Superhero/Super Girls,” will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 17 in the Kalkaska High School Auditorium. A total of 26 contestants will vie for the titles of Tiny Tot, Little Miss, Pre-Teen, Teen and Miss Kalkaska. Tickets will be available at the door.

Downtown Bellaire Poker Run

Pet Food Drive

The Bellaire office of AmeriGas is currently collecting donations of pet foods, supplies and toys to be donated to the Antrim County Animal Shelter. All donations can be dropped off at the AmeriGas office, 7061 S M-88 on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
For every $10 cash or item(s) donation patrons will receive a free 20-pound cylinder refill. To find out more call 231-533-9494.

Blood drive scheduled

The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from noon to 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 13 at Ellsworth High School, 9467 Park St. To find out more or make an appointment, visit redcrossblood.org or call 800-733-2767. All blood types are needed. A blood donor card or driver’s license (or two other forms of identification) are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood.

Young Miss ER Pageant

Ten contestants will compete for various titles on Saturday, March 10 for the chance to represent Elk Rapids this summer alongside Miss Elk Rapids 2018, Clare Klein. This year’s theme is “Under the Sea” Tickets will be on sale at the door for $6. Doors at Peterman Auditorium will open at 5:30 p.m. with the pageant beginning at 6. A dessert afterglow will follow the pageant.

‘Reading the Weather’

The Elk Rapids District Library is hosting local meteorologist and TV weatherman Joe Charlevoix at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 10 for “Reading the Weather.” Charlevoix will show attendees the signs they can “read” in the ever-changing metrological conditions experienced throughout the region and answer weather-related questions.

Health & Wellness Expo

A free Health & Wellness Expo will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 10 at the Bellaire Senior Center, 308 Cayuga St. The event will feature several local farms, homesteads and health providers to offer attendees a variety of natural and organic health options. Door prizes and giveaways will also be featured.
