Free concert

“The Open Door,” a Christian Coffee House, will host free gospel music concerts on the first and third Saturdays of each month (through July), beginning at 7 p.m., 951 Mill St. in East Jordan. Central Lake Car Show

The 6th Annual Central Lake Car Show will be held rain or shine Saturday, June 9 at Sage Park in downtown Central Lake. Early registration (discounted entry fee) ends June 1. Registration on the day of the show begins at 8 a.m. with the event starting at 10 a.m. A Friday night cruise is scheduled for 6 p.m. on June 8 with entertainment by Dominic Fortuna from 7-9 p.m. and Kenny Thompson on Saturday. Art Beat

Elk Rapids will celebrate the change of seasons with its spring Art Beat, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 2. Three award-winning galleries – The Blue Heron Gallery, Mullaly’s 128 Studio & Gallery and The Twisted Fish Gallery – will be participating in the open house exhibit throughout the day.

Arts and Crafts Show

The Elk Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce will host the first of three Arts and Crafts shows beginning this Saturday, May 26. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. downtown along River Street. More than 70 vendors from throughout the region and beyond will be on hand to display their handmade wares.

Petoskey Stone Festival

Movie Night at the library

The Friends of the Bellaire Library will host Movie Night at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 22 at the library. The featured movie is “The Finest Hours” starring Chris Pine and Casey Affleck. The movie is based on the incredible true story of an impossible U.S. Coast Guard rescue. The movie is rated PG-13 and runs 117 minutes. Prior to the movie, Bob Holtzmann of Bellaire and a former member of the Coast Guard will give a brief talk. For those interested in dinner before the movie, please meet at Short’s Brewing at 5 p.m. The movie and popcorn are free and all are welcome.

Customer Appreciation Day at Rooted

UTLA monthly potluck

The Upper Torch Lake Association will host its monthly potluck dinner on Monday, May 14 at the Torch Lake Township Community Services Building, 2355 US-31. All area residents are invited to attend. Bring a favorite beverage and a dish to share. For allergy purposes, chefs are asked to bring the list of ingredients for their dish. The social hour begins at 6 p.m. with dinner starting at 6:30 p.m.

Women’s Expo

The 2018 Spring Women’s Expo – originally scheduled last month and cancelled due to weather – has been rescheduled for Saturday, May 12, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Kalkaska Civic Center, 1905 Fairgrounds St. A number of exhibitors will have items on display and available for purchase at the event. The first 25 attendees will receive a swag bag filled with goodies and savings coupons, and all attendees can register for the Big Basket Giveaway.

‘Shanty 2 Short’s Run’

The “7th Annual Shanty 2 Short’s Run” will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 12 beginning at Shanty Creek Resorts’ Lakeview Hotel. Same-day registration is available. Awards will be given out at Short’s Brewing Company immediately after the conclusion of the 10K race. Race awards include overall Male/Female winners, Master Male/Female winners and the first three Male/Female winners in each age group (14 and Under, 15-20, 21-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 70+).
